Two shorter Disney trips or one longer trip: which is better?
For most families, one longer trip is the better value. Every extra day on a multi-day ticket costs less than the day before it, while a second trip pays the expensive parts twice: flights, transfers, and travel days at both ends. Split into two trips only for young ages, a short drive, or two different seasons. A travel advisor can price both versions for your family.
One longer trip wins on value
The biggest reason is ticket pricing. The longer the ticket, the less each day costs, so the cheapest park days you can buy are the last ones on a longer ticket. Two four-day tickets cost more than one seven- or eight-day ticket covering the same park time.
Travel is the other half. Flights, airport transfers, and the half-days spent arriving and leaving all happen once on a long trip and twice on a pair of short ones. Two trips also means checking in, unpacking, and setting up park plans twice.
A longer stay is also an easier one. With how many days settled at seven or more, you can do one park per day, take a slow morning in the middle, and end with an evening back at a favorite park.
When two trips beat one
- Very young kids. Young kids tire before a long trip ends. Two shorter trips a year or two apart also happen at two different ages, and the rides available change with the child’s height.
- Driving distance. When your family can drive to Orlando instead of buying four plane tickets, travel costs stay small on both trips, and two trips become a real option.
- Two seasons in one year. One trip cannot include both the EPCOT® International Flower & Garden Festival in the spring and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at the end of the year. When the family wants both, two short trips are the only version that works.
Pricing both versions
Price both versions before deciding: travel costs once versus twice, and the per-day ticket cost for each. Then check the last day of the longer ticket, because that day is the cheapest park day you can buy. That price difference is what makes one trip the better deal.
